What is Yoga?
The Sanskrit term yoga has a wide range of different meanings. It is
derived from the Sanskrit root yuj, "to control", "to yoke", or "to
unite". Common meanings include "joining" or "uniting", and related
ideas such as "union" and "conjunction". A system of exercises which
help your control of the body and mind. It also improves your
breathing and focuses the alignment of your body.

How should I start?
What we recommend and what you can work into your schedule can differ, but you are doing the right thing by getting started! Any workout is more beneficial to your body than no workout at all. We suggest beginning with private lessons so one of our instructors can develop a workout regime designed to meet your needs. We offer a startup package of three privates to start you on your way.

How often should I come?
If you are just starting out, we recommend you come at least three times a week for the first month or two so that you and your body can learn the exercises. If you can only come once or twice a week, you will still derive benefits; however, the "learning curve" will be a little longer.
Will I lose weight?
Pilates, Yoga, Sculpt and Barre are not intended to be cardiovascular activity, however your heart rate may stay at a "low-impact" level throughout your workout. If weight loss is your goal, we strongly recommend taking advantage of CARDIOLATES®. Your Pilates, Yoga, Sculpt and Barre sessions will increase lean muscle mass which is important for increasing your metabolic rate. Cardio will add the fat-burning component you need to shed any unwanted pounds, reveal the body you're sculpting underneath, and get the most out of your time here.
How long before I see results?
Every body is different; therefore, every body responds differently to working out. Some of our clients have noticed differences in their posture and the way they carry themselves in as few as three sessions. More significant changes take longer. Please remember: you get out of your sessions what you put into them! Our clients who come - even as infrequently as once a week - and concentrate for the full hour and "give it their all," see more improvements than clients who come more regularly but don't make the effort when they are here.
I am pregnant - can I still do Pilates?
WITH DOCTOR'S PERMISSION! If you have been a client with us and become pregnant after starting, it is usually considered safe to continue what you have been doing. However, we do require you to check with your doctor as every pregnancy is different. It is not advised to start ANY new exercise system after becoming pregnant. Therefore, if you have just become pregnant and are thinking of starting any of our classes, we advise you to wait. With your doctors permission most of our methods can be taught by appointment.
I have an injury - can I still come?
Yes, with doctor's permission. Once your doctor has approved and/or you have been released from physical therapy please fill out a Client Health Profile form and we will be happy to have you in session.
